"Secret Story” to debut in French-speaking Africa

The search for secrets is set to debut in Africa on June 15, as CANAL group introduces "Secret Story” to French-speaking Africa for the first time. The show, whose 12th season premiered on April 23 on TF1, will adopt the same concept and format as its French counterpart.

Contestants will be isolated from the outside world in the "House of Secrets”, a house fully equipped with video cameras in every room except the bathrooms. Each contestant’s mission is to protect their own secret while attempting to uncover those of their housemates.

The show will feature 15 contestants from 14 French-speaking African countries. This concept has also been successfully adopted in other countries, such as Portugal in 2010 with "Secret Story - Casa dos Segredos”, in the Netherlands in 2011 with "Secret Story - Het huis der geheimen”, and in the United Kingdom in 2013 with "Big Brother: Secrets and Lies”.

"While the participants’ names haven’t been announced yet, we’ve suggested a few local names who might have the opportunity to represent Rwanda on the show. It’s very exciting, as the winner stands to gain around Rwf20 million,” said a CANAL representative.

For this edition, which will span two months, the "House of Secrets” in South Africa will be equipped with 60 cameras and 200 microphones. CANAL Afrique announced that the programme would be broadcast live 24 hours a day throughout the eight-week duration on CANAL Channel 99.

The show will also feature a daily broadcast from Monday to Friday at 6:15 p.m. on CANAL Pop. Nominations will take place every Thursday, followed by the live playoff every Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (local time).

Additionally, viewers can experience the reality TV show through the CANAL application, CANAL Afrique social media channels, and the voting platform accessible to all viewers at www.secretstoryafrique.com.

"With this dedicated broadcast and digital platform, CANAL promises its subscribers a unique gaming experience every day for eight weeks. Beyond just watching, they can actively participate by voting for their favourite contestant,” said Dira.

Discussing CANAL coverage of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) season 4, he added: "We aired BAL on Canal to make it accessible to all, especially our customers across the African continent. This is crucial as BAL continues to grow in influence and importance. It starts here, and we aim to maintain the momentum and leadership that begins here.”

Other exciting content coming to CANAL this summer includes Copa America 2024, which will be hosted in the US, and "Shuwa Dilu”, a new Zacu TV exclusive series featuring renowned local comedians Papa Sava, Bamenya, and Dr. Nsabi.

CANAL clients in Rwanda can now indulge in a vast selection of entertainment, boasting over 400 channels and more than 50 radio stations available in French, English, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Ikirundi, and Luganda languages.
