EASTERN PROVINCE

RWAMAGANA—Trainings have been taking place across the country as the Ministry of Education has placed enormous emphasis on the importance of nursery education in Rwanda.

Speaking during one two-week training of nursery school teachers at the Hotel Ikambere in Rwamagana, ministry official Grace Kayitesi told 90 attendants that, on top of primary, secondary, and university education, development worked in building blocs where nursery education was of paramount importance.

"An increase in nursery education needs to match with an increase in the skills of nursery educators in order to achieve quality education,” Kayitesi said.

"This is the third time we are conducting training for nursery educators and the process will continue.”

Agnes Mushonganono, headmistress of Ecole Primaire Rwamagana Protestant, welcomed the training saying it supplemented parent initiatives and revealed there was at least one nursery school in every administrative cell in the district.

Rwamagana has 82 cells. Patrick Byabagamba, a member of the parents’ committee also attending the meeting, said time had come for quality education at a young age.

Nursery education was the foundation of all education, he noted, and argued that early learning made children more independent and disciplined. The training was sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
