SIX-TIME league winners Rayon Sport are gearing up for their clash with bitter rivals APR on Saturday at Amahoro stadium, knowing that a win for the Blues will be a boost towards their title quest.
Rayon Sport Head Coach Raoul Shungu told Times Sport that his side is confident and looking forward for victory in the weekend’s El Classico.
"At least, I have an injury-free squad and the mood is high in the camp and APR should expect a bitter challenge over the weekend,” Shungu said.
Shungu further added that Rayon will face APR with players’ boost of Burundian Eric Gatoto, Jimmy Kidega, Yusuf Ndayishimiye, Peke Yake and Cyril Pizzolera who all didn’t feature in the 1-all first leg match.
They are coming off a deserved 1-0 win over AS Kigali a week ago and have played outstandingly in all their home ground fixtures in this campaign.
Tanzanian born striker Joseph Kaniki who terrorized the military side defence in the first leg is eager for a repeat this time.
Rayon Sport is just about still in the national league title race, but anything less than a win against APR will severely restrict their chances.
The Blues have amassed 29 points in 14 league matches played this season and they are placed third on the standings, four points behind the leaders APR and two points adrift second-placed Atraco.
After the highs of a third-place finish last season, Rayon Sport have failed to recapture that form and look destined for mid-table mediocrity.
Their problem has been blunt strikers. They have scored 20 goals and this would leave them as league’s worst attack compared to the big two, though fairness they have one of the best defence too, having conceded nine goals in that time.
