BAL 2024: Petro de Luanda, Al Ahly Ly to square off in final

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2024 championship will go to either Libya’s Al Ahly Ly or Angola’s Petro de Luanda who face off in an epic final at BK Arena on June 1 at 4pm CAT.

Petro de Luanda qualified for the final of the weeklong tournament following an overtime win against resilient Cape Town Tigers on Wednesday. It will be their second BAL final in three years after losing the second edition to Tunisia’s US Monastir.

The Angolans threw their 13-point lead away late in the fourth quarter before the Tigers tied the game at 77-77 at the end of the regulation and it to overtime.

But Petro de Luanda held their nerve and dominated the overtime with ease as the game ended 96-86 in favor of Petro.

Meanwhile, BAL debutants Al Ahly Ly overcame Rivers Hoopers 89-83 in after another overtime in Wednesday’s first semifinal.

Meanwhile, Rivers Hoopers and Cape Town Tigers will face off in the third-place match on Friday, May 31.
