From music to fashion, everything was ‘Old School’ to keep the event a relevant one. The 2024 edition takes place on June 27

After three editions of throwback music, the Oldies Music Festival is back and ready to take its revelers back to the good old vibes of the 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s. All roads will be leading to Juru Park, Rebero, for the big musical rendezvous slated for July 27.

This time around, the organisers have added another theme to the show which aims at celebrating 30 years of liberation and the rebirth of entertainment activities in Rwanda after the genocide Against the Tusti that claimed over a million lives.

Speaking to The New Times, Basile Uwimana, the brains behind the event, said that the upcoming edition of the festival comes at the time Rwandans reflect on their countries’ rebuilding journey 30 years after the Genocide as well as celebrating music and fashion styles that shaped the era.

"We are linking the fourth edition with the 30th anniversary of Rwandan liberation and remind people memorable moments that brought music back to life in the country after the Genocide against the Tutsi,” Uwimana said in an interview.

"Entertainment played a big role to unite Rwandans in the aftermath of the Genocide and we are celebrating its evolution at our next edition,” he added.

Another thing, he said, the upcoming Oldies Music Fest will attract industry titans and some of the early event promoters who brought the likes of Lucky Dube to Rwanda, to interact and inspire the next generation of the industry.

"We want to make this a fun event where old-school music and fashion meet. We also encourage people to bring vintage cars as usual and showcase them,” he said.
