On Saturday Remera Rugby Football Club won the Annual Buffalo 7s tourney for the second year running. What many thought would be a one sided final (no pun intended) saw Remera Buffalo A tussle it out with its B side for the Main trophy.

However, Remera B drew first blood with a well worked out try. Team A responded with a try. Team B fought on though it had to fall to its superior side which was beefed up by Uganda’s star guest player Simon Wakabi and tournament’s MVP Vincent Kamali, who made some brilliant runs and tries.

The game ended 35-10 in Buffalo A’s favour. In the Plate category, 2007 main trophy winners Gorilla RFC took on Lions de fer. It was a tight contest with both sides seeming to be on equal footing. It however took a breathtaking last minute drop goal to give Gorillas the Plate.

The Shield category was taken by the National University of Rwanda side, the Grizzlies. They played against Buffalo C. They made light work of it after raining various tries against it.
Overall, the record crowd that turned up at the Red Cross, Kacyiru grounds was not disappointed.

The quality of referees however, left much to be desired with some observers noting that a referee should not go ahead to play for any team.

Buffaloes covered all the tournament costs as no sponsor had come up by the day of the games. All participating teams walked away with a rugby ball courtesy of Buffalo RFC. Sharks RFC were the prominent absentee.
