On October 20, U.S-based Rwandan singer Medart Jobert Ngabo, known by his stage name Meddy, was arrested for drink-driving and speeding in the wee hours of Sunday night, as police cracked down on drink-driving .

The singer, who was in Rwanda for the Youth Connekt Africa Summit concert as well as other performances in the region, was released on October 25.

Meddy has now partnered with Airtel Rwanda and Rwanda National Police (RNP) to promote road safety, particularly during this festive season.

In a video posted on his social media platforms the ‘Slowly’ singer urges Rwandans to exercise caution and drive carefully during the festive season.

"Dear Rwandans, this is Meddy. We are fast approaching the festive season, that time of the year when we celebrate and enjoy with our loved ones. However, when we don’t enjoy responsibly, we put our own lives and the lives of others in danger,”

"Therefore, let us all avoid driving after drinking alcohol. Road safety is a responsibility for all of us. Gerayo amahoro,” Meddy says in the video.

The video attracted a flurry of comments on social media, with many appreciating the R&B singer for owning up to his mistake and turning it into an opportunity to save lives.

David Bayingana, a local showbiz journalist, commented that: ‘It is better to learn from someone with experience rather than learning things in school’, while Bruce Twagira, a music promoter said, "We should all make road safety our responsibility so that we enter the New Year safely,”

The singer is in Rwanda as part of a partnership with Airtel where he will be performing at a series of concerts under the ‘Tera Stori’ promotional campaign.

Last weekend, he performed in Musanze town alongside King James and Senderi International Hit.
