KIGALI - The National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide (CNLG) has called upon media practitioners in the country, to play a role in the annual commemorations of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis.
The call was made yesterday by Christine Tuyisenge; the CNLG Vice-President during a consultative meeting with representatives of media houses.
She said that journalists have a big role in rebuilding the country by objectively informing the community in the fight against the Genocide ideology.
The 15th commemoration will be held under the theme; "Let us keep alive the memory of Genocide against Tutsi by fighting its revisionism as we build our country.”
"We need your help to prepare the community to avoid trauma and to fight the genocide ideology,” Tuyisenge said.
An international conference of genocide scholars is will take place in Kigali between April 4 and 6 as part of the commemorations this year.
According to Jean de Dieu Mucyo, the Executive Secretary of CNLG, the country will host several dignitaries from the international community.
The national remembrance will take place at Nyanza Kicukiro, while Rwandans in the Diaspora will converge at the different Rwandan embassies across the world.
"We are going to work with you not only during the commemoration, but we need to build a concrete and permanent relationship because fighting genocide is a responsibility of all Rwandans in particular the media,” Mucyo reiterated.
