Saturday APR 5-0 Musanze Etincelles 2-1 Gasogi Gicumbi 2-2 Heroes
APR extended their unbeaten run in the Rwanda Premier League on Saturday as they humiliated Musanze in an imposing 5-0 victory at Kigali Stadium.
With the victory, the army side also moved three points clear at the top.
However, Police, who have 24 points, could again go level with APR if they win their away fixture against AS Muhanga on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead just after six minutes when Dany Usengimana opened the scoring off a beautiful cross from Djabel Manishimwe after Musanze defenders thought that the two forwards were offside – and that was the start of a terrible afternoon for the visitors.
The explosive display of Mohamed Adil Erradi’s men saw APR 4-0 up by half-time before skipper Thierry Manzi rounded the score off with a fifth goal in the 48th minute.
Young striker Lague Byiringiro doubled the lead with an outrageous solo effort, with Djuma Nizeyimana scoring the third goal just six minutes later, while Manishimwe put his name on the score-sheet in the 41st minute after goalie Gad Muhawenayo failed to clear the ball in the box.
"We did exactly what we needed to do,” APR captain Manzi said in a post-match interview.
"It was a fantastic game and fantastic result. We have to continue to be serious, and focus on one match at a time,” added the former Rayon Sports centre-back.
After their devastating defeat, Musanze are now 13th on the 16-team table with 9 points from 11 matches.
In other matches on Saturday, Etincelles edged Gasogi United 2-1 at Umuganda Stadium, while Gicumbi and Heroes played out a 2-all draw at Mumena Stadium.
