UK-based worship team Hillsong London has confirmed their performance at the highly-anticipated live gospel concert slated for December 6, at Kigali Arena, Remera.
Dubbed ‘Hillsong London Live in Kigali’, the event is being organised by Rwanda Events Group, a local events company and is expected to attract gospel music lovers not only from Rwanda but all over the region.
Yesterday, Monday 25, the British worship band shared the news on their social media platforms where they confirmed their performance in Kigali, their first ever in Rwandan.
"Kigali, we are excited to being with you on 6th December 2019, Come join us for an evening of praise and worship as we celebrate the love of Christ! We can’t wait to be there with you!” the worship giants posted on twitter on Monday.
The concert organisers also told The New Times that they were so surprised that it did not take Hillsong long to confirm their request to perform in Kigali.
"Having Hillsong London in Kigali is not by our might, not by our strength and not even by our money either. It is just a blessing because they did not hesitate to confirm our request when they received our invitation to perform in Kigali,” said a member of the organising team at Rwanda Events, who spoke on condition of Anonymity.
"It will be their first time in Rwanda and they are looking forward to seeing how Rwandans sing, how they praise and worship, and have a feeling of what Rwandans’ way of praising is like. We believe it is going to be a blessing to many of us, especially those who like Hillsong’s music”
It is also unusual for a gospel concert to take place on Friday but organisers explained that they had to stick with Hillsong’s schedule of their tour.
One member of the concert organising team revealed that people will have enough time to praise and worship with the band in a two-hour long live performance.
"Hillsong has a better answer than me about the anticipation ahead of the performance, but I trust people will enjoy every single second of their music. It will take place in the last month of the year and this is hopefully going to be the best moment to thank God for what they achieved and pray for the next year,” she added.
The worship band is expected in the country on December 4, two days to the concert where they will be carrying out charity activities.
Local gospel singer Aime Uwimana is the lone Rwandan musician lined up to perform at the concert, according to organisers.
Hillsong London is affiliated to Hillsong United worship band that originated as a part of Hillsong Church, one of the largest evangelical Christian churches in the world founded by Brian Houston in Sydney, Australia, in 1983.
It has over the years been committed to creating a musical expression in its uniqueness and writing songs that awaken churches and individuals into God’s calling.
