March 28

Rwanda  v  Algeria

Rwanda’s Amavubi team will start residential training March 8 ahead of the 2010 World/Africa Cup third round qualifying match against Algeria on March 28 in Kigali.

While confirming the schedule over the weekend, Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa also told Times Sport that when Branko Tucak’s side starts the preparations, all other football activities will be halted.

"This will allow the national team to prepare better without any hindrances,” Kalisa said.

The federation executive further added that they intend to summon the country’s professional players.

Norway based striker Olivier Karekezi (Ham Kam) and Cyprus based defender Hamad Ndikumana (AC Omonio) are ready up for the challenge after putting up their names for selection early this month.

Kalisa is confident that Amavubi Stars will win their 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers third round opener against their North African rivals.

"Amavubi Stars is strong despite not playing build-up matches this year but they will spend three weeks in camp ahead of the game with Algeria.

"Our record against North African countries is improving and I’m quite confident of our chances of reaching far in this final qualifying round,” Kalisa stated.

Meanwhile, the national football league will be put on hold after the February 28 fixtures to pave way for the national team preparations.

Rwanda is drawn alongside Algeria, Egypt and Zambia in Group C of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Having failed to qualify for the last two Nations Cup finals, Rwanda must finish inside the top three to qualify for Angola 2010 CAN finals.
