Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has returned to football following his unveiling as Fifa’s new Chief of global football development.

The Frenchman joins the world football governing body amid speculations that he was joining German giants Bayern Munich as head coach.

Wenger, 70, parted ways with Arsenal in May 2018, ending his 22-year stint with the Gunners during which he won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups. 

According to a Fifa statement, Wenger said, while accepting his new job, that he eagerly looked forward to taking on the ‘extremely important’ challenge.

The former Monaco manager’s new role at the world governing body will help to develop men's and women's football, as well as technical aspects of the sport.

With his new undertaking, Wenger is now a member of the technical panel of the International Football Association Board, and chairman of Fifa's technical study group.
