Olivier Costa was the surprise package of the Kobil Rally of Tanzania after securing a podium slot in the three-day rally, also the opening round of the 2009 African Rally Championship.

According to the provisional results, Costa co-driven by Jean Ruhashyankiko in a Subaru Impreza clocked 195 minutes and 04 seconds, nine minutes more than the overall winner Jamie Whyte of Zimbabwe. Uganda’s Emma Katto finished second.

Rwanda’s national champion Davite Giancarlo, who had registered an excellent start dropped out after running off the road with a damaged suspension.
