SC Kiyovu 0-0 APR

Local giants APR failed to regain the top spot in the Rwanda Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by SC Kiyovu at Kigali Stadium on Friday night.

The army side go into the international break, which runs until November 21, in second position as they are level with leaders Police at 18 points and 8 goals of difference, but the latter have scored more goals (14) compared to APR’s eleven.

Seeking to end their 27-year wait for a first top-flight league title, SC Kiyovu started the better side and could have broken the deadlock in the 76th minute but forward Armel Ghislain’s effort was denied by goalkeeper Umar Rwabugiri.

With the draw, SC Kiyovu were made to wait for the two sides’ reverse fixture to see if they can end their winless run against APR in the league. The latter have not lost to the Green Baggies in a league match since October 2017.

Although Kiyovu arguably had the best chance of the match, through Ghislain, Mohammed Adil Erradi’s side were more wasteful as they missed a number of chances in both halves through Fitira Omborenge, Dany Usengimana and Lague Byiringiro.

Still unbeaten after eight matches this term, this was APR’s third draw, with the first two having come against AS Kigali in the season opener and Police last week.

Mukura, who thrashed AS Kigali 3-1 on Tuesday, are third with 17 points, while reigning champions Rayon Sports complete top four with 15 points, level with fifth-placed Kiyovu.

Strugglers Gicumbi are bottom with only 3 points, one adrift of 15th-placed Heroes FC and three behind Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali.
