To scale-up the realisation of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS) in the country, government is to train Rwandans in leadership.

The training which also covers prosperity, is be conducted at Rwanda Academy for Leadership and Prosperity (ALCP).

The aim is to accelerate competitiveness and execution of development programmes in the country.

This programme will be conducted by Rwanda Institute of Administration and Management (Riam) together with On the Frontier (OTF) Group.

OTF group, which began operating in the country in 2001, has been instrumental in offering advisory services on competitiveness.

Eric Kocou, OTF Group Director said under this programme, his organisation would offer the content, designing and the actual evaluation of the training. He said the training will mainly be based on practise and case studies.

This would be provided for a period of three years after which, the trainings will then be conducted by Riam.
The programme was launched on Monday at Ministry of Commerce building in Kimihurura.

"Trainers will be able to offer innovative and competitive services. Private and public sector employees are both to benefit” said Vincent Karega. He is the State Minister for Trade and Investment promotion.

He said the programme targets members with minimum education of a bachelor’s degree. Besides, they should be bellow 40 years.

"At the beginning, we will not be charging, we are still doing the marketing,” Karega said. He added that latter, they will start charging.

Minister Karega said mentality contributed a bigger part in the development of countries like China, South Korea and Singapore. "We want to have it here,” He said.

The programme curriculum is set to last for 12 weeks, with attendants training half a day session per week. The training will include a mixture of formal training and independent study. Currently public and private institutions are being called upon to express interest.
