Rwanda U18 teams begin preps for FIBA Africa Zone V tourney

Rwanda’s U18 basketball teams (boys and girls) on Friday, May 24, started residential training camp preparing for the forthcoming FIBA Zone V Championships scheduled for June 9-14 in Kampala, Uganda.

The teams are currently residing at Cenetra Hotel, and they hold daily training sessions at STECOL.

The boys’ team is under the guidance of Yves Murenzi, while the girls’ team is coached by Jacques Bahige.

Ten countries, namely hosts Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Eritrea, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Sudan, have all confirmed participation.

The tournament winners from both boys and girls' categories will directly qualify for the U18 Afrobasket Championship 2024 in Johannesburg,

South Africa in August.

This year’s showpiece will mark Rwanda's fourth appearance in the FIBA U18 African Championship, having previously participated in Madagascar 2014 and Rwanda 2016.
