Twelve people have been arrested over a cyber-fraud attempt on Equity Bank Rwanda, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau announced Thursday night.
RIB says the suspects include eight Kenyans, three Rwandans and one Ugandan.
"This group was arrested while in the process of hacking into the bank system to steal money from clients' accounts,” the Bureau wrote on Twitter.
It added that the group "came to Rwanda after successfully defrauding Equity Bank both in Kenya and Uganda.
A case file has been submitted to the National Public Prosecution Authority for further management, RIB noted.
"RIB commends all those who shared information that led to the arrest of suspects and urges the public to remain vigilant and always share information that can be used to prevent crime,” it added.
