Rwanda Tourism University College has officially launched its partnership with Air Travel and Related Studies Centre. Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) on November 12 last year, R.T.U.C early this week received Charles Gakuu the Chief Executive Officer Air Travel and Related Studies Centre to officially launch the partnership.

Based in Nairobi Kenya, the institute offers courses on International Air Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management with combinations of I.A.T.A Diploma’s and Business Studies.

According to Callixte Kabera, the Director Rwanda Tourism University College, the partnership was aimed at promoting and boosting Rwanda and Kenya development through teaching research, technological innovations in areas of their respective specialization and related fields.

The collaboration will help in building human capacity and enhance professional skills of staff. Both institutions are expected to achieve from the partnership through training, student industrial attachment, staff interactions and exchange of experience and information.

"Among other benefits from the partnership, training Rwandan students in the field of International Air Travel is a highly recognized development,” Kabera said explaining that this field is lagging behind in the country.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to stand chances of employment opportunities in that field,” he stressed adding that such chances are international but Rwandans have been failing to apply due to lack of skills.

This is the second partnership the University has made with institutions from Kenya. In 2008, the university came in partnership with Mt Kenya University which offers studies in three schools namely school of health science, school of pure and applied sciences and school of social sciences.

To Kabera, the partnerships with the two institutions will help to uplift the University’s academic standards to rhyme with other regional and continental Universities.

"Mt Kenya University and Air Travel and Related Studies Centre are fully equipped and established institutions capable of directing upcoming institutions,” he explained.
