Cameroonian footbal legend Albert Roger Miller, commonly known as Roger Milla, is also in Rwanda, to join several other football legends who will grace the official launch of the Legends in Rwanda event gala scheduled for October 12-14.
He arrived in Kigali late on Tuesday, October 11.
The Legends in Rwanda event gala is a pre-event to the 2024 Veteran Clubs World Championship due to take place in Rwanda as well.
Milla achieved international stardom at 38, an age at which most forwards have retired, by scoring four goals at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He became the oldest goalscorer in World Cup history. He helped Cameroon become the first African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
Four years later, at the age of 42, Milla broke his own record as the oldest goalscorer in World Cup by scoring against Russia in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
Milla is also remembered for his trademark goal celebration of running to the corner flag and performing a dance.
In 2004, he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players.
In 2007, the Confederation of African Football named Milla the best African player of the previous 50 years.
Milla won the African Player of the Year award twice, in 1976 and 1990. In 1990, he was included in the World Team of the Year. He won the French national championship in 1980 and 1981. Milla also won two African Cups with Cameroon, the first in 1984 and the other in 1988.
Currently, Milla manages a project responsible for the protection and care of the vulnerable population, 'Roger Milla & Associates'.
