With less than a week to the ICC U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Mozambique, Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) is toiling to raise Frw6m needed for the U-19 cricketers to travel. The money is expected to cater the team’s participation fees ($2500) and travel expenses among others.
However, just under a week before the tournament kicks off, RCA do not have the money to fund the team but are hopeful something will evolve.
"We have received a couple of pledges and remain optimistic that something will follow through,” the team’s manager Eddie Mugarurura said. Should the team travel, it will be Rwanda’s first international competitive appearance at this level.
The tournament that runs from February 27-March 5 will be played on a round robin format and at the end of the day; the top side will progress to the final qualifiers slated for April in Zambia.
In Mozambique, Rwanda will contend with the likes of Ghana, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Gambia and hosts Mozambique for the lone slot.
