APR basketball club have completed the signing of youngster Armel Sangwe from archrivals Espoir on a one-year deal.
The Burundi-born shooting guard, 19, who joined the military side on Friday, had been at Espoir as one of the club’s key players since 2016.
In an interview with Saturday Sport on Friday, APR head coach Aime Karim Nkunsi confirmed the signing development. "We are happy to sign him (Sangwe), his talent and work ethic is a great boost to our squad.”
He further noted: "He is a player we had been closely monitoring for the last couple seasons. Sangwe is one of the most talented players in the league, and we also have plans of signing about three more players ahead of next season.”
In separate interview, Sangwe said he was thrilled to be joining ‘one of the all-time biggest’ basketball clubs in the country and looked forward to the new challenge.
Sangwe is best remembered for his stunning career-high 35 points in January 2018 as Espoir stunned Rwanda Energy Group 100-77 in a league game at Amahoro Stadium.
