Jean-Claude Gasigwa and Uganda’s tennis ace Duncan Mugabe will renew their court rivalry today in the first of two semi-finals of the Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Open at Lugogo courts.

Uganda’s Geoffrey Zziwa proved no match for Gasigwa as Rwanda’s top seed raced to a convincing 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory to set up a semi-final clash with Mugabe who ejected James Odongo 6-1, 7-5 at the quarter-finals.

After his impressive quarter-final display, Gasigwa, fresh from winning the East Africa prize money circuit Kigali leg said that he was full of confidence ahead of today’s semi-finals.

"I’m pleased with the way I played today, I was spot on from start to finish and my confidence is high ahead of the semi-final,” the 26-year-old said before conceding, "I know it’s going to be difficult playing Mugabe at his home court but it’s such games that test a player’s mental strength so I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

In the other semi-final clash, Kenya’s Francis Rogoi is up against defending champion Martin Dzuwa from Zimbabwe.

After battling hard for a 6-3, 7-6 quarter-final’s win over Uganda’s Robert Buyinza, the Kenyan knows that he has to double his effort against the Veteran Zimbabwean who is chasing for a second successive Uganda Open crown.
