Rwanda is set to host the Global Gender Summit scheduled to take 25 – 27 November 2019, at the Kigali Convention Centre.
The summit is organised by the African Development Bank (AfDB) with other multilateral partners and it takes place every after two years.
While making his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, President Paul Kagame took the opportunity to invite global leaders to the high-level summit.
Under the theme "Unpacking constraints to gender equality”, the summit will dig deep into three dimensions in which gender equality and women’s empowerment can be achieved.
The dimensions include scaling up innovative financing; enabling legal, regulatory and institutional environments. They will also look into how women’s participation and voices can be secured.
The main objective of the summit is to share best practices and investment to accelerate progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa and around the world.
The event brings together leaders from government, development institutions, private sector, civil society and academia.
