The news has been awash of a young graduate who abandoned his office desk and went into farming. He struck gold when he signed a contract with a Chinese firm to supply them with chilies worth a whopping $50 million for the next five years!

Then a phenomenon known as "Abasare” (a boat driver or coxswain) stepped in. They first emerged a few years ago when the Traffic Police was strict on drink-driving. The ‘sailors’ knew where the roadblocks were and drove the drunk drivers past them for a fee. Now they are back.
A group identifying itself as "Designated Driver” is offering chauffeur services for those who have passed the alcohol limit; you call them, they drive you in your car to your destination for a fee; Rwf5,000 for most destinations.
Everyone is happy in the end; the "Abasare”, the police, but most importantly, the car owner and his or her pockets.
