Players Abroad: Ntwari keeps clean sheet in Galaxy win over Pirates

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, who took the number one spot from Bosnian Vasilije Kolak in January, kept his eighth clean sheet in the DSTv Premier League as his side beat Orlando Pirates 1-0.

It was a fair weekend for Rwandan players abroad as the league season concluded at various countries.

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, who took the number one spot from Bosnian Vasilije Kolak in January, kept his eighth clean sheet in the DSTv Premier League as his side beat Orlando Pirates 1-0.

Abdul Rwatubyaye was also a pillar in defense for FC Shkupi who beat league leaders Struga 2-1 whereas Sibomana and Bayisenge also won the Kenyan Premier League with Gor Mahia.

Elsewhere, Rafael York had a superb outing for Gefle IF who defeated GIF Sundsvall 1-0 in the Swedish Superettan League.

Sweden

Rafael York played full throttle on the right wing as Gefle IF overcome GIF Sundsvall with a 1-0 win at the Gavlevallen Stadium on Friday, May 17.

In the Superettan division, Yannick Mukunzi replaced Malachowski Thorell in the 77th minute but Lague Byiringiro was an unused substitute as their side Sandviken IF thrashed Varberg 3-1 on Sunday, May 19.

And, in the Ettan Norra League, Torre Rafael came in for Ibrahim Habib in the 64thminute as they walloped Taby 4-1.

Norway

Centre back Ange Mutsinzi had 90 minutes for FK Jerv who recorded a thrilling 3-3 draw with Arendal at the Norac Stadium.

Belgium

Hakim Sahabo was replaced by Turkish midfielder Cihan Canak in the 81st minute as his side Standard Liege collapsed to a 4-1 humiliating loss at the hands of Gent at the Stade Dufrasne on Saturday.

France

Warren Kamanzi came from the bench in the 67th minute to replace Mikkel Desler as his side Toulouse lost 3-0 at home to Brest on Sunday night.

Switzerland

Joel Mugisha Mvuka is expected to feature on Monday, May 20, when Young Boys SC visit Servette in the playoff game.

Skipper Quentin Rushenguziminega tasted full time action for FC Echallens who lost 4-2 to Naters in match day 29 of the Swiss Classic

Ukraine

With a place in the 2024/25 Europa League already secured, FC Kryvbas head coach Yurii Vernydub decided to give Amavubi captain Djihad Bizimana a rest. The R wanda captain was not in the match day squad for his side which lost 3-1 to Dynamo Kiev.

Bizimana is expected to travel to Kigali on Monday, May 20, where he will join the rest of his Rwanda teammates in the camp for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in June.

In the Ukrainian second tier league, winger George Lewis Ishimwe replaced Maksym Andrushchenko in the 82nd minute as PFC Zvyahel beat Rukh Skala 1-0 courtesy of a 93rd minute penalty from Sergii Kyslenko.

Macedonia

Centre back Abdul Rwatubyaye played 90 minutes for FC Shkupi who beat league leaders Struga 2-1 in Saturday’s Macedonian First Football League Week 33 top liner.

Latvia

Defender Dylan Georges Maes played the entire game as FS Jelgava lost 5-1 to second-placed Riga at the Zemgales Olimpiska Centre on Sunday.

South Africa

Fiacre Ntwari was the hero of the day for TS Galaxy as he pulled a host of saves in club’s 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Ntwari has kept eight clean sheets in 16 games so far this season as Galaxy sit 4th on the table with 43 points from 28 games.

Morocco

Left-back Emmanuel Imanishimwe played full time for AS FAR who beat Olympique Dcheira 2-1 in the semifinals of the Throne Cup.

Kenya

Patrick Sibomana and Emery Bayisenge won the 2023/24 Kenyan Premier League title with Gor Mahia following a 3-0 victory over Muhoronie Youth. Sibomana was not in the match day squad while Bayisenge remained an unused substitute.

Elsewhere, Arthur Gitego played 90 minutes for AFC Leopards who lost 1-0 to Bidco United in the Kenyan Premier League on Sunday.

Tunisia

Defensive midfielder Bonheur Mugisha was not in the match day squad of AS Marsa who beat OC Kerkennah 2-0 to qualify to the quarter finals of the Tunisian Cup. Mugisha had started Marsa's last four games until he was rested

Tanzania

Experienced striker Meddie Kagere may get some minutes on Monday, May 20 when Namungo FC travel to Jamhuri Stadium to face Mtibwa Sugar.
