Kigali Golf Club Captain Davis Kashaka won the third edition of the CIMERWA annual golf tournament, which climaxed on Sunday evening at the par 72 Kigali golf course in Nyarutarama.

To achieve the feat, the captain returned 71 gross, including six buddies, during the two-day event which attracted 160 golfers in both the male and female categories. 

The tourney attracted players from Rwanda, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, DR Congo on the invitation of sponsors, CIMERWA.

In the women’s category, the overall winner was Rehema Karegeya who returned 90 gross and was awarded a trophy and trolley.

Linda Mugeni was the ladies’ net winner after returning 36 points to walk away with a trophy and trolley in the handicap 0-36.

Alice Rwigeme finished as the first runner up with 33 points while Nadege Nimbona, who is on the national team scored 28 points and finished as the second runners- up.

In the men’s senior handicap 19-28 Stable Ford, Eugene Munyaneza returned 38 points to finish a net winner, Edward Chebbii was the first runners up while James Kwezi returned 36 and 34 points to finish second runners up respectively.

Tebere Mulata finished as Net Guest winner with 32 points while the gross winner in the men’s caddies category was claimed by Celestin Nsanzuwerea with a 63 Gross.

Eric Hatagekimana claimed the Net winner category, while in the women’s fray, Esther Mukagasana returned 98 Gross as the overall winner. 

The closest to the Pin-men was claimed by Karan Singh, who also had the longest driver-seniors. Milcah Kamere won the Closest to the Pin in the female category.

Kennedy Murichu took the longest to the drive in the male category while Phindo M took the scooped the ladies’ category.

Meanwhile, the expansion of the 18-hole course which starts next month to May 2020 means all golf activities will come to a halt following the planned temporary course closure.

For the caddies who earn from offering golf services, this means becoming jobless for the upcoming eight months, however, a financial boost from the golf fraternity has been raised to cater for them.  

Golfers and individual guests have raised more than Rwf 500,000 for the caddies welfare association. Karan Singh, CEO of Yego Rwanda and local CIMEREWA Rwanda have offered more than Rwf 4million.

Bheki Mthembu, the CIMERWA Chief Executive Officer noted that the cement manufacturers will continue to be a brand with social reach and help the caddies fund that was introduced last year,
