Saturday AS Kigali 1-1 Proline

AS Kigali were Saturday held 1-1 by visitors Proline FC in the first leg of their first-round tie in the 2019/2020 CAF Confederation Cup at Kigali Stadium.

The 2019 Peace Cup winners shared spoils with Proline after striker Farouk Sentongo equalized from the spot in the 86th minute. Proline had taken the lead in the 48th minute through Bright Anukani.

The hosts noticeably dominated the possession and could have been 2 or even 3 goals up in the second half, but the wastefulness of their forwards combined with Hassan Matovu’s brilliance in Proline goal ensured a crucial draw for the Ugandan team.

With the hard-fought draw at home, AS Kigali will need to win or a scoring draw of more than one goal in the return-leg, due on September 8 in Kampala, if they reach the playoffs round.

"I am disappointed,” AS Kigali coach Eric Nshiyimana told reporters in a post-match interview.

"We dominated the second half and had many chances to score, but all were wasted. And, this puts us in a bad position going into the second leg.”
