At Alpha Palace Hotel in Kigali, smart ladies and gentlemen from different hotels and restaurants in the country listen attentively to an expert explaining best ways of running their businesses.

They are being taught hospitality skills, front office management, customer care and marketing strategies. The group also leant about food and beverage control, rooms management, to ensure hygiene and food security.

The Centre for support of small and medium Enterprises in Rwanda’s Rica Rwigamba said they are helping the hotel industry in Rwanda measure up:  "We want our hotels and restaurants to be at international standards. Our target is 100 hotels and restaurants managers.”

So far 25 hotel managers have been trained in a move to position Rwanda as a leading service industry provider in the Great Lakes region.

Jean Pierre Manager of Legends Hotel in Kigali said with the competition, hotel service delivery in Rwanda has to improve.
