Sitting Volleyball: Gasabo, Bugesera win Genocide Memorial tourney

Gasabo and Bugesera Sitting Volleyball teams emerged winners of the men and women’s Genocide Tournaments that concluded at Kimironko courts on Saturday, May 18.

The one-day tournament was organized by the National Paralympics Committee (NPC) in partnership with the Ministry of Sports on the occasion to remember over a million victims slain during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The tournament was preceded by the visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, where players and members of the NPC and MINISPORTS paid homage of more than 250,000 Tutsi victims laid to rest at the site.

The competition featured matches between the top four teams in both the men and women's categories.

In the men's category, Gasabo retained the title after defeating Rusizi 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23).

The tournament winners reached the final after overcoming Musanze while Rusizi saw off Gisagara to secure their spot in the final. Musanze SVB clinched third place after beating Gisagara 2-0 (25-22, 25-20).

In the women's category, Bugesera claimed the trophy by defeating Musanze SVB 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-16) in the final. Gicumbi won the third-place match by beating Nyarugenge 2-1 (24-26, 25-18, 16-14).
