Olivier Karekezi’s Norwegian side Ham Kam have taken their pre-season training to the balmy weather of La Manga, Spain.

Ham Kam manager Arne Erlandsen and his full backroom staff and squad will return on March 7 from the team-building break at the five-star resort.

He said: "It’s a long season and the must work their socks off. They’ve a heavy schedule.”

"It will benefit everyone to get away together, and hopefully help us prepare next season’s league matches games. It gives us a chance to do some warm weather training.

"It’s a good time to just go and get away for a few days, and, along with the warm weather training, some relaxation as well.” Erlandsen told the club website.

With an 18-day break before next the league starts on March 13, Ham Kam has decided to switch to sunnier climes to continue their preparations.

Meanwhile, Karekezi is expected to head to Kigali after his club’s return from Spain to join the Amavubi Stars ahead in camp ahead of the third round of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder who can also play as a forward, signed for Helsingborgs in 2005 from APR Fc, and scored five goals in 18 matches during that season.

In January 2008 he transferred to Hamarkameratene and scored five goals but his services never helped the club to survive relegation.

As skipper, Karekezi was instrumental in the Amavubi Stars’ progress to the third round of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers and he was in the squad which represented Rwanda at the 2004 African Cup of Nations.
