Théoneste Nkunzingoma, the National Youth Coordinator in Rusasa Sector in Gakenke District was early this morning found dead with multiple injuries on his body.
According to accounts from the deceased's family members and workmates, his telephones had gone off for several hours before he was found dead in Rukore Cell in Cyabingo Sector, which borders Rusasa Sector.
"His body had multiple injuries. It was retrieved from a stream where it was dumped,” one resident said.
The development was confirmed to The New Times by Gakenke District Mayor, Déogratious Nzamwita.
"It is true we lost a person last night. He was the national youth coordinator in Rusasa Sector, but his body was found in Cyabingo Sector,” the Mayor said.
Nzamwita added that security organs were investigating the matter.
Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) Spokesperson, Modeste Mbabazi, confirmed the matter as a possible murder case, based on preliminary investigations. No arrests have been made so far.
"Investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Isidore Iradukunda, the National Youth Coordinator in Gakenke District, described his slain colleague as "a patriot and hardworking person who used to strive for positive change within the community,”
"What we knew was that he had no wrangles with anybody. We have been shocked by his death and we are appealing for deep investigation,” added Iradukunda.
