President Paul Kagame is on Wednesday scheduled to address the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in the Japanese city of Yokohama.

The two-day global summit opens on Wednesday, August 28.  

President Kagame’s participation was confirmed by Olivier Nduhungirehe, the State Minister in Charge of East African Community at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Nduhungirehe said that the President will feature in a panel session on ‘deepening sustainability and resilient economy’.

The subtopics under the subtopic include; universal health care, science, technology and infrastructure, disaster risk reduction and climate change, as well as human resources development and education.

TICAD is an international conference regarding the development of Africa launched by Japan in 1993.  

The meeting is now held every three years convening African heads of state and government representatives to engage in bilateral talks with the Asian nation.

The government of Japan leads the conference with co-hosts such as the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank and African Union Commission (AUC).

During the last TICAD summit held in Nairobi in 2016, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, committed a $30 billion investment package by 2018 including a $10 billion investment in infrastructural development for Africa.
