The Finance and Economic Planning ministry has presented districts’ budget proposal for the financial year 2008-2009.
The minister James Musoni said this during the local Governments’ 2008 budget preparation review on recently at Prime Holdings, Kigali.
He said the budget would assist some districts to effectively run development projects that are in line with the government Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategies (EDPRS).
"The budget will help these districts in capacity building, job creation economic development projects through CDF funded programmes”, Musoni said.
Musoni however said that some districts have faced problems of delayed service delivery especially in giving out tenders. He said a lot of effort is needed to address the problem.
The budget is to fund operational costs (Frw11.8 billion), sector development (Frw68 billion), community development (Frw8.3 million) and the Genocide survivors fund (Frw12.5 billion) at the districts.
Musoni also said that the ideas discussed in the meeting would be included in the proposed national budget.
The minister added that he would work hand in hand with other ministries to address all possible problems that might hinder the effectiveness of the budget.
