Rwanda U-20 men’s handball team claimed their first ever regional title after defeating neighbors Uganda in the final of the 2024 Men's IHF Trophy Zone 5 held Friday, May 17, at Ethiopian Sports Academy in Ethiopia.
Rwanda claimed the biggest result following a nail biting 26-25 victory over Uganda.
François Xavier Ngarambe’s boys recovered from the first half deficit when Uganda was leading 13-11 before turning the score around by winning a full time game with a hardworking defense.

The champions finished the four-day tournament as the only unbeaten team, and were crowned champions after a win against Uganda in a closely contested game.
Following this triumph, Rwanda will represent Africa Zone to the 2024 IHF Trophy Continental Phase Africa.

Meanwhile in the U18 category, host Ethiopia defeated Rwanda 36-25.
In the U18, the top scorer award was given to Dieudonné Habumukisha known as Rwabugiri, who scored 29 goals, the highest in the U18 tournament.
