Rwanda’s outgoing ambassador to China, Charles Kayonga, has urged Chinese investors to invest in Rwanda, citing many opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, agri-processing, tourism and hospitality, as well as real estate.
The envoy delivered the message, Friday, on the occasion of celebrating Umuganura day, during which national harvest is feted by Rwandans in the country and beyond.
The ceremony took place in Beijing’s Yanqing District where the 2019 Beijing International Horticulture exhibition is being held.

The event featured cultural performances for both Rwandans and Chinese as part of enhancing culture experiences between communities, food sharing, as well as a platform to showcase Rwandan products.
Various guests from Chinese different institutions and investors witnessed the celebrations.

Sharing knowledge about the day, Kayonga explained to the guests that Umuganura enables Rwandans to come together to celebrate their unity and share their produce, marking the achievements as well as setting new goals for the upcoming season.
He also added that celebrating such important event provides an opportunity to share more about the progress the country has made so far, following the tragic 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
"This is another opportunity to present the progress that the country has made so far to develop itself and citizens. Despite the past hardships, Rwanda is now a very safe and secure country. So far, investments are secure as Rwanda is one the least corrupt countries with zero tolerance for corruption as China is,”
Umuganura celebration attracted various guests from Chinese institutions
Quoting different global rankings, Kayonga said that Rwanda is one of the best places to do business as a result of infrastructure development, easing business registration process as well as embracing the culture of honesty and transparency.
"I would like to encourage Chinese companies to come and invest in Rwanda particularly in the sectors of manufacturing, processing, tourism and hospitality, real estate.”
He also highlighted the country’s vision to become a technology hub to ease business, commerce, Education among others.
"In a bid to build a knowledge-based technology drive economy, Rwanda is embracing new technologies in various sectors and even being proactive by using technologies in an innovative way for instance use of drone to deliver blood,”

He commended on Alibaba platform in promoting E-commerce for Rwandan products.
China has become Rwanda’s largest trading partner and engineering contractor.
Wang Chunfeng, the Deputy Commissioner General of the 2019 Beijing Expo, highlighted the outcomes between Rwanda and China since 2009, adding that friendship between both sides will continue to grow and countries’ communities will continue to prosper.
Wang thanked Rwanda to participate in the 2019 Beijing International Expo, saying that such a spirit will enhance the countries’ friendship.
