Ani confirms talks with Rwanda FA over playing for Amavubi

Bugesera FC striker Elijah Ani has revealed that the local football governing body has contacted him over a possibility to play for Rwanda and confirmed that he is ready to feature for Amavubi.

The Nigerian forward finished the just-concluded 2023/24 Primus National League campaign as the joint top scorer after he and countryman Victor Mbaoma fo APR are tied at 15 goals.

Ani, who is yet to play for his home nation at any level, is being courted by Rwanda and contact has been made as the country looks for a prolific attacker ahead of the ongoing FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

"Yes, I have been approached by the authorities and I am ready to play for Rwanda. It will be a big dream come true for me," Ani told Times Sport.

"Let's see how it goes in the coming days and we will see the way forward. Now, everything is in their hands," he added.

Ani, 25, is yet to be capped by Nigeria at any level which makes it easy for him to feature for Rwanda without any tedious process.

The gangling forward is already a top target for interest from Rayon Sports, AS Kigali and Police after his impressive debut season in Rwanda.
