Six Rwandan cyclists are scheduled to take part in the Cameroonian annual cycling tournament dubbed ‘Tour de Cameroon’.

The tourney due to start on Tuesday, February 17 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, is expected to attract various professional teams from Africa, USA and Europe. 

The Rwandan team is comprised of Abraham Ruhumuriza, Obed Ruvogera, Nyandwi Uwase, Jean de Dieu Rafiki, Daniel Nyendahayo and Nicodem Hayibambere.

It will be their fourth tournament this year for Team Rwanda after ‘LA Tropicale Amissa Bongo’tourney in Gabon, the Tour of Egypt and in South Africa.

"Tour de Cameroon’, which will be entering its seventh edition, is expected to provide another learning experience for the cyclists according to the secretary general of the national cycling federation Mr. Emmanuel Murenzi.

"After participating in two international tournaments last month, we believe our cyclists have now the necessary experience to succeed in a competition of this magnitude,” he noted.

The national cycling team coach Jonathan Byron was not available by press time to give his assessment of the team’s chances.

Meanwhile, the president of the national cycling federation Aimable Bayingana also traveled to Egypt for the Congress of African cycling federation which is set to discuss a wide range of issues regarding cycling for the next two years.
