Former Amavubi forward Jimmy Mulisa has launched a football academy, dubbed ‘Urumuri Football Academy’, as he seeks to raise the next generation of football stars.

Located at Wellspring Academy school in Nyarutarama, the initiative makes him the first ex-Rwanda international to set up a football academy in the country.

Run by Mulisa himself, and assisted by Jean de Dieu Mateso, training at the academy started this Monday where the youngsters are trained under three age groups; from 8 to 11 years, 11 to 13 and from 13 to 15 years of age.

Mulisa, who was part of the famous Amavubi squad that played the 2004 AFCON finals tournament in Tunisia, retired from competitive football in 2014 after nearly ten years as a professional player with difference clubs in Europe and Asia.

Prior to his 2005 move to R.A.E.C. Mons in Belgium, Mulisa was at APR for four seasons where he scored 16 goals in 40 appearances.

Over the last five years, he has been caught up between assistant coach and interim head coach positions with local giants APR, including last season where the army side finished second in the Azam Rwanda Premier League.
