FLY Cycling Club’s seven young riders depart Kigali today ahead of their 25-race series in Belgium, starting on Saturday, July 13, through August 18.
This is the second time Fly Cycling riders are competing in the European races courtesy of the club’s sponsors, Skol Brewery Ltd.
According to Emilienne Benurugo the company’s Brand Manager, the objective of the trip is to give exposure to young and promising cycling talents on international scene.
"The hope is that by investing in these riders now, they may become Rwanda’s next generation of top professionals as Rwanda envisions to become the continent’s cycling powerhouse.
With its volume of races, under different conditions, Belgium provides an ideal setting to sharpen our young riders into champions,” she said.
The team will be based in Eiklo, East Flanders, where they will train and race in 25 competitions, up from 11 races of 2018 .
The youthful side’s first race, set for Saturday, is Borsbeke (117.5km) while their last, scheduled for August 28, will be Overmere-Berlare on a distance of 96 kilometres.
