Three-time Cecafa Kagame Cup winners APR have booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup with a game to spare.
The military side reached the last 16 after beating Zambian side Green Eagles 1-0 in their second Group C match, on Monday at Kigali Stadium in Nyamirambo.
The first-hald ended 0-0 before APR piled pressure on the Zambian side that eventually yielded in the 59th minute, with an own goal from Borface Sungu.
APR started the game showing intent with Ernest Sugira, Djabel Manishimwe and Lague Byiringiro running rings around Green Eagles defenders who, however, largely remained steadfast.
The win took APR to the top of Group C with six points while Green Eagles and Proline of Uganda have three points apiece, with the two sides set to play against each other on Wednesday.
APR will face Heegan of Somalia – who lost their opening two games – in their last group game.
In their opening match, Green Eagles won 2-0 over Heegan, while APR beat Proline 1-0. Proline beat Heegan FC 2-0.
