Hundreds of Nyirabahutu's fans and fellow musicians in the country took to social media and paid tribute to the singer.
Rwandan traditional musician Daphrose Nyirabahutu, who died on Tuesday, June 18, at the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) in Huye District, will be laid to rest today in her home village of Ruranzige, Nyaruguru District.
The adored songstress, aged 70, had made a name for herself as the senior citizen that composed songs praising President Paul Kagame and his government’s achievements.
Nyirabahutuwas fondly known as ‘Umukecuru wa Perezida’ (loosely translated to mean, ‘The President’s Elderly Woman’) thanks to her passionate and uplifting performances especially during presidential rallies.
Nyirabahutu is survived by four children, having lost two of her children during the Genocide against the Tutsi and another one before.
Her husband passed on a few years ago.
Nyirabahutu also leaves behind 11 grandchildren.
