Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF), in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry, and United Nations are holding a two-day training for procurement officers in the country.

The seminar which is taking place at Hotel Novotel, is aiming at briefing local business operators on the UN procurement system so that they can also vie for tenders to supply UN missions.

"It is a resolution by the UN General Assembly that developing countries should benefit from its procurement division,” Joseph Twine, officer in charge long-term Air Charter Team in procurement division told participants yesterday.

In an interview, Emmanuel Hategeka, the PSF Secretary General said that the seminar would help in preparing and giving the basic information to Rwandan procurement officers on how to do business with the UN. 

However, Hategeka emphasized that; Rwandans need to build their capacity to compete with the world in order to benefit from the UN.

"Rwandans need to add more effort in delivering quantity, quality and timely services through enhancing competitiveness,” Hategeka pointed out.

According to the UN officials in the seminar, Rwanda’s being in the proximity of the world’s biggest UN mission in the world (MONUC), it  has a big chance of  benefiting from the mission mainly in supplying basic needs.

MONUC is the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
