Bryan Manvir and his navigator Drew Sturrock have extended their lead at the top of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) table after their victory at this year’s Zambia International Rally.

The Kenyan crew is well-positioned after winning all the opening three races of the continental championships, and collecting a maximum of 100 points, a whopping 28 points ahead of Zambian pair of Leroy Gomes, in second position.

As expected, there was no Rwandan driver in the race. Giancarlo Davite, a Belgian racer based in Kigali, was the last Rwandan flag bearer at the competition in October 2017.

Manvir, who also won the event’s previous two editions, made the most of his outing as he used a time of two hours, twenty-one minutes and thirty-seven seconds to cover the 308.33km course.

Zambia’s Leroy Gomes, navigated by wife Urshilla Gomes, driving their new Ford Fiesta, came second finished second, while Kabras Racing crew of Onkar Rai and Gareth Dawe, another Kenyan crew, came third.

Of the 28 entries; only 15 managed to finish.

The next race on the 2019 ARC calendar will see drivers headed to the Safari Rally Kenya on July 5-7, followed by Ugandan Pearl of Africa Rally on August 2-4.

Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, scheduled for October 4-6, will be the race drawing the curtain down on the year-round championship.
