Friday was a momentous day for Gerard Bikorimana as the Rayon Sports’ third goalie thwarted edge-cutting chances and saved a spot-kick to power his side to the last sixteen round in the 2019 Peace Cup tournament.

AS Kigali beat Rayon 1-0 at Kigali Stadium in the two sides' return-leg clash to force the tie into penalty shootout following the Blues’ identical victory in Tuesday’s first-leg.

Rayon won the penalties 4-2. However, AS Kigali equally advanced to the next round as best losers and both sides will know who they will meet in the last-16 after Saturday’s draw.

Midfielder Janvier Benedata’s strike in the 26th minute proved to be the only difference in regular time as AS Kigali goalkeeper Bate Shamiru kept off Rayon Sports players Michael Sarpong, Gilbert Mugisha and Suleiman Mudeyi to ensure a clean sheet on the night.

However, the Uganda-born shot-stopper would miss a penalty during the shootout, before Rayon’s Sarpong, Christophe Bukuru, Djabel Manishimwe and Prosper Donkor made him suffer from the spot.

Only skipper Tumaine ‘Titi’ Ntamuhanga and Fabrice Nininahazwe converted for AS Kigali.

In the meantime, APR travel to Rwamagana District Saturday for their decisive encounter against Rwamagana City after winning the first-leg 2-0 on Wednesday.
