Rwanda men’s senior volleyball team suffered defeat at the hands of Uganda on Wednesday as they ended their disappointing performance at the just concluded CAVB Africa Zone V Championship at Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, Kenya.
The regional tournament, which also doubled as qualifiers for this year’s All-Africa Games, started Monday.
The only ticket that was allotted for the Eastern Africa region was contested for, by four countries namely; hosts Kenya, Egypt, Uganda and Rwanda, all facing one another on a round-robin basis.
Of the three matches, Paul Bitok and his men were only able to win one, against Kenya on Tuesday, having lost the opener to Egypt the previous day.
By press time, the last game of the four-team competition, between Egypt and Kenya, was yet to get underway. However, Egypt had already secured the sole slot to the All-Africa Games following their two victories against Rwanda and Uganda.
On Wednesday, Uganda stunned Rwanda in four (3-1) sets, marking the former’s first victory over Rwanda since Bitok’s appointment as head coach in 2011.
