Eastern Province-based Etoile de l'Est and Sunrise FC have been relegated from the 2023/24 Primus National League after finishing 15th and 16th on the table.

Etoile were favorites to beat Bugesera FC considering that they were playing before their home supporters who filled out Ngoma Stadium at full capacity but, to the surprise of many, they faltered as the Nyamata-based club pulled magic and comfortably defeated them 3-0.

Even without their top marksman Elijah Ani, Francis Haringingo’s side remained dominant from the very beginning to full time.

David Byiringiro put the visitors ahead with a superb strike in the 36th minute before Pacifique Dukundane made it 2-0 in the 39th minute.

Frank Ruhinda made it 3-0 in the 49th minute and the host could not recover, hence dropping to 15th place.

Other Games

At Nyagatare Stadium, Sunrise FC beat Marines FC 3-1 but the win could not save them as they were relegated on goal difference.

Robert Mukhogotya, Brian Ssali and Elise Mwizerwa were all on target for Sunrise as they finished 15th with 32 points and minus 15 goals.

Elsewhere, Kiyovu Sports also pipped Rayon Sports by 1-0 thanks to a 79th minute goal from Alfred Leku. The Blues finished second on the table with 57 points while the Green Baggies finished in 7th place with 45 points.

Meanwhile, APR FC will be crowned champions on Sunday, May 12. The military side will face Amagaju FC where, after the game, the title will be presented to them. It will be their 5th league title in a row.
