A new study by luggage storage company Bounce has ranked the best island holidays for 2024, considering factors crucial to any island getaway: stunning beaches, exciting activities, affordable hotels, and delightful weather.

While Thailand‘s captivating Phuket reigns supreme – the island gem boasts idyllic beaches with warm waters reaching a balmy 30°C in April – Zanzibar, in Tanzania, comes second, with a variety of reasons including its beer prices and number of stunning beaches informing the ranking.

In February, Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi said his government was taking steps to boost tourism in Zanzibar. Addressing the opening ceremony of the second edition of the Z-Summit, Zanzibar Tourism and Opportunities 2024, Mwinyi said: "The government of Zanzibar remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing the infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that underpin our tourism industry.”

In Africa, apart from Zanzibar, the only other island that is featured in the top 10 is another Indian ocean getaway, Mauritius, which is ranked seventh.

Greece’s also budget-friendly Crete, ranked third, reportedly offers the ideal balance for budget-conscious travelers who crave adventure. With a staggering 228 beaches to explore, Crete is a haven for history buffs, nature enthusiasts, and beach lovers alike.
