THE national triathlon federation (RTF) has said that this year’s triathlon Kwibuka edition will take place in Karongi District, Western Province.
RTF president Alex Mbaraga confirmed the competition will be staged on June 15, with all clubs expected to take part.
"The objective is to pay tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi,” he pointed out.
Sport can help heal the wounds of the past and serve as an enabler for forgiveness and reconciliation, the RTF official said.
In Karongi, participants will use Lake Kuvu during the swimming contest.
The competition will be sponsored by Coca Cola Bralirwa, the largest beer and soft drink manufactures in the country.
Last year’s edition was won by Hanani Uwineza who is currently in Luxembourg on a three-month scholarship programme ahead of the Africa triathlon competition.
