Leaders Rayon Sports saw their chances of winning the Azam Rwanda Premier league title enhanced after second-placed and defending champions APR lost 2-1 against AS Muhanga on Saturday at Muhanga Stadium.

Should Rayon Sports beat Kirehe on Friday they will be crowned champions for the ninth time, but defeat to the hosts and a win for APR the following day will see the title race go right to the wire.

After 28 match-rounds and with only two rounds left this season, Roberto ‘Robertihno’ Oliveira’s Rayon – who swept Musanze aside 3-1 on Friday – top the table standings with 66 points, four ahead of archrivals APR.

"This is the result we wanted. I am happy with the boys, but we have to stay focused for the next fixtures because we still have a long way to go. Our aim is to win the title,” Robertihno said.

Forward Yannick Bizimana scored twice as ten-man AS Muhanga stunned APR 2-1 in Muhangha, with Yves Mugunga scoring the consolation goal for the military side.

By the time APR host lowly Espoir at Kigali Stadium on Saturday they will be knowing whether the race is all but over.

APR, 17-time champions, will be up against Police in their final game, while the Blues will play against Marines on June 1.
