Local football governing body, Ferwafa’s technical director and the U-17 national team head coach Michael Weiss has had his contract extended by further two years by the German football federation (DFB) and the government of Rwanda till 2011, when Rwanda will be hosting U-17 African Youth Championship.
Local football governing body, Ferwafa’s technical director and the U-17 national team head coach Michael Weiss has had his contract extended by further two years by the German football federation (DFB) and the government of Rwanda till 2011, when Rwanda will be hosting U-17 African Youth Championship.
Weiss told Times Sport recently that he has been contracted by both the German FA and Rwandan government to guide the junior team in the forthcoming U-17 African championship.
Michael Weiss who took over as Ferwafa’s technical director two years ago was seconded to Rwanda by DFB under the DFB-Rwanda technical grants program.
Currently, Ferwafa is benefiting from DFB technical grants.
Several national soccer teams have enjoyed training camp stints in Germany under the DFB program.
"My renewed contract will cover both technical director role and coaching position of the national youth teams,” Weiss said.
The German born Coach said that Rwanda has enough potential to enable the Under-17 reach far 2011 Africa youth championship due in Kigali and the World youth championship finals despite to secure the final qualification spot to year’s continental youth championship due in Algeria in March.

The Caf sponsored African Under-17 Championship served as a preliminary of Fifa U-17 World Cup. From 1985 to 1993 only qualifying competitions for the Fifa U-17 World Cup were played. Since 1995 there is a biannual African championship.
